Discover the story behind one of the most expensive and endangered shellfish delicacies in the world and what we are doing to save them sustainably and safely.

We offer a guided farm tour on Monday through Friday starting at 9:00am, 10:30am, 12:15 pm and 1:45pm (10:30am and 1:45pm on Saturday). Tours cost $25 per person, children 8 and under cost $12 per person. Infants (0 yrs old) and toddlers (1-3 yrs old) are free.

Reservations in advance are required. Please come to our premise at least 15 min before a tour begins.

(A tour with Japanese speaking tour guide is available on request basis)

Various informative talks about abalone, learn about the decline of natural abalone and the life cycle of abalone.  What makes the Kona abalone the best quality abalone in the world?  Observation of baby abalone and parent abalone (broodstock). 

Enjoy hands-on experience with abalone and observe its ecology.  Exhibit and hands-on explanation of the creatures that live in the
Hawaiian seashore (starfish, sea urchins, etc.).

Directions

From Kona International Airport, head one mile south toward Kailua Kona on the Queen Kaʻahumanu Hwy (Route 19) and take a right exit on Makako Bay Drive, following the sign for the Natural Energy Laboratory of Hawaii Authority(NELHA), and through the NELHA gate. (You will see two big solar panels on the right side of the highway). Drive about one mile toward the ocean. Big Island Abalone Corporation is on the left just before the beach.
